Mysore/Mysuru: Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.M. Gayathri has directed officers to take stringent action within the ambit of law to curb the practice of child labour.
She was speaking during a meeting of District Executive and Task Force Committee organised by Department of Labour and Balakarmika Yojana Society at Zilla Panchayat auditorium in city recently.
“Children indulged in child labour should be identified and brought to the mainstream of the society by admitting them to school,” advised Gayathri.
If children are found vending on road side and begging, action should be taken as per law. Awareness should be created about prohibition on child labour, she said.
Hobli-wise teams constituted to keep a tab on such practices should inspect under-age and adolescent labourers. Taluk-level progress review meetings should be conducted and if the child labourers rescued during surprise raids belong to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), they should be distributed food kits under SC/ ST sub-plan, said Gayathri.
Labour Officers and other Department Officers were present at the meeting.
