Chamarajanagar /Hassan, Mar. 30 (SS&DM)- In all, ten candidates have remained in the fray in Chamarajanagar (SC) Lok Sabha seat.
While the Congress has re-nominated its sitting MP R. Dhruvanarayan, BJP has fielded veteran party leader V. Sreenivasa Prasad, who is a former Union Minister and a 5-time former MP from the same Constituency and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Dr. Shivakumar.
The other candidates in the fray are M. Nagaraj of Uttam Prajakiya Party (UPP), founded by actor Upendra, B. Prasanna Kumar of Karnataka Praja Party (KPP), Subbaiah of New Indian Congress (NIC) and G. Anand, N. Ambarish, M. Pradeep Kumar and G.D. Rajagopal, all independents.
A total of 13 candidates had filed their nomination papers from this SC reserved seat. During scrutiny, the papers of S. Govindanayak, who had filed nomination as Bharatiya Bahujan Krantidal candidate was rejected, thus leaving 12 candidates. But two independents — S.M. Lingaiah and M. Honnaiah — withdrew their nomination yesterday, thus leaving ten candidates in fray.
Now that the nomination process has ended, Congress candidate Dhruvanarayan, BJP’s Sreenivasa Prasad and BSP’s Dr. Shivakumar have intensified their campaign, making a whirlwind tour of villages across the district.
At Hassan
Prajwal Revanna – JD-S (Woman carrying sheaf of paddy)
A. Manju – BJP (Lotus)
Vinod Raj – BSP (Elephant)
Chandregowda – UPP (Autorickshaw)
Mahesh – Independent (Road Roller)
R.G. Satish – Independent (Dish Antenna)
Six candidates have remained in the fray in Hassan Lok Sabha seat, which also goes to the polls on Apr.18. JD(S) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, who is the sitting MP from this seat, had ceded the seat to his grandson Prajwal Revanna.
Prajwal had filed his nomination as JD(S)-Congress Coalition candidate on Mar.22. A. Manju, a Minister in the previous Congress Government headed by Siddharamaiah, is the BJP candidate here, while the BSP has fielded Vinodraj.
Manju had defected to the BJP just a week after the announcement of the LS poll schedule on Mar. 10, following which the BJP fielded him as its candidate.
Interestingly, Hassan, which is one of the high pitch Constituency in the State, has the least number of candidates remaining in the fray — six — out of the 14 LS seats that are going to polls on Apr. 18. The counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.
The three other candidates in fray are Chandregowda of Uttam Prajakiya Party; Mahesh and R.G. Satish, both independents.
