10 Residential Colleges to come up this year: Minister

Bengaluru, June 8 (KMS&DM)- Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayareddy has said the Government will establish 10 Residential Degree Colleges from this year. Replying to a question by Maddur JD(S) MLA D.C. Thammanna during Question Hour in the Assembly yesterday, Basavaraj Rayareddy said that the Government was planning to establish such Colleges in most backward districts.

Pointing out that there were 412 Government First Grade Colleges, the Minister said that several Colleges were found lacking in student admission and as such the Government was mulling closure or relocation of such Colleges, which are about 15 in number. Assuring the MLA that Kestur in Maddur taluk would be considered for establishment of a College, he said the process of appointing lecturers at Government Colleges had begun and added that 2,160   lecturers would be appointed through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Adequate security for girls hostel at Manasagangotri: Replying to another question by Tiptur MLA Shadakshari, the Minister said that the Government had taken adequate measures for the safety and security of girl students hostel at Manasagangotri in Mysuru.

Stating that there were 3 blocks of girl students hostel at Manasagangotri campus of University of Mysore, the Minister said that the compound wall has been heightened and security personnel have been deployed round the clock.
