Deia S. Urs, I PUC student of Vidya Vardhaka Sangha Golden Jubilee College, Kuvempunagar won the gold in the Junior (16-17 years) category at the 10th State Level Cadet, Junior and U-21 years Karate Championships organised by Akhila Karnataka Sports Karate Association (AKSKA) held on Dec. 16 at Institute of Agriculture Technologists in Bengaluru.
Around 300 participants from all over the State took part in the championship. Deia Urs in the quarter finals defeated Rachana of Bengaluru 4-1, later B. Geeetha also of Bengaluru in the semi-final 5-0 and in the finals she defeated Priya N. Miskin of Kalaburagi 5-0. She will be representing Karnataka in the Cadet, Junior and Under 21 Karate Association of India (KAI) National Championships to be held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from Jan. 30 – Feb. 2, 2018. A total of 6 karatekas in kata (3 male & 3 female) and 31 in kumite (17 male & 14 female) will represent Karnataka State in the National Meet.
Earlier Deia had won Gold in the Senior State Championship. She will also be representing Karnataka State at the KAI Senior National Championships to be held at Netaji Subhash Chandra Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Jan. 13-14, 2018.
