120 crore women avail free bus travel under Shakti: CM

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “As many as 120 crore women have availed free travel facility in KSRTC buses under Shakti Scheme in the State, with Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses alone witnessing 40 lakh women travellers daily.”

Speaking during the addition of 100 hi-tech electric buses to BMTC fleet yesterday, CM said “Under Shakti Scheme, women irrespective of caste, religion and class are travelling in buses, with farmers and working class women saving a big chunk of money from meeting travel expenses. They are now spending the savings on meeting other requirements of family. In all, 4.3 crore people are the direct beneficiaries of guarantee schemes implemented by the Government and the poor are being brought to mainstream of the society.”

By April next, 1,400 new electric buses will be added to BMTC fleet, added CM Siddaramaiah.
