14-year-old girl commits suicide, holds teacher responsible in note scribbled on palm

Nagamangala: A 14-year-old girl, studying in eighth standard, allegedly committed suicide by hanging self at her house in Nagamangala yesterday and has held her teacher responsible for her death in a message written on her palm. The deceased girl has been identified as Bhavani, daughter of Srinivas and Nagamma couple, residents of Subashnagar in Nagamangala.

Bhavani, who had attended the school on Friday, stayed back at home on Saturday. When the family members were away, Bhavani is said to have committed suicide and the message she has scribbled on her palm said, “Yashodamma teacher alone must be held responsible for my death, and no other.”

Bhavani’s mother Nagamma said that her daughter used to tell her that Yashodamma kept harassing her and often accused her of theft, besides passing lewd remarks in front of her classmates and restricting her daughter’s movements in the school premises. Some of Bhavani’s classmates reportedly said that Yashodamma used abusive language in class and targeted Bhavani for no reason. Yashodamma had also accused Bhavani of stealing money, they said.

Bhavani’s parents, who held teacher Yashodamma responsible for their daughter’s death, demanded to bring the culprit to book.

Nagamangala SI Bharat Gowda and staff, who visited the house of Bhavani, conducted enquiry. A case has been registered at Nagamangala Police Station and Yashodamma has been charged with abatement to suicide.
