A 16-day refresher course in Experimental Physics, organised by the Department of Physics of St. Philomena’s College was inaugurated at the Conference Hall in the college premises yesterday.
Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, former Vice-Chancellor, Kuvempu University, who was the chief guest, lauded the college for taking the lead in conducting such courses and gave emphasis on Experimental Physics.
Prof. Venkataramaiah said that the theoretical knowledge gained could be a good foundation for the experiments to be conducted during the course and added that people had become ‘conscious of the quality of higher education.’
He suggested that for the sake of improving the quality of higher education, proper teaching faculty is a must and added that the faculty must be in tune with the development and also update their knowledge constantly.
Prof. R. Srinivasan, RRI, Bangalore and the Convener of the course in his address stressed on the importance of updating the century old experimenting techniques.
Mahabaleshwar, RRI, Bangalore, Prof. M. Krishne Gowda, Principal, Rev. Fr. Leslie Moras, Rector, St. Philomena’s College, Prof. D. Revannasidaiah, HOD, PG Department of Physics and Prof. Rajalakshmi, HOD, UG Department of Physics, St. Philomena’s College were among those present.
