Mysore/Mysuru: With just under an hour left for the deadline for filing of nomination papers for 14 Lok Sabha seats in the State which are going to the polls on Apr.26, as many as 16 candidates have filed their nomination papers for Mysuru-Kodagu LS constituency, when we went to the press this afternoon.
On the last day today, one P.K. Darshan Shourie filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate at the office of the Returning Officer in the new Deputy Commissioner’s office at Siddarthanagar here this morning. While 15 others had filed their nomination papers till yesterday ever since the filing of nominations began on Mar.28.
The candidates who have filed their nominations thus far, are-Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar of BJP, M. Lakshmana of the Congress, T.R.Sunil of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), M.S. Praveen of Karnataka Rashtra Samiti (KRS), A.S. Satish of Akhila Bharath Hindu Mahasabha Party, H.K. Krishna of Karunada Paksha, J.S. Leelavathi of Uttama Prajakiya Paksha, N. Harish of Socialist Party (India) and P.S. Yedurappa, Doreswamy, Shivananjaiah, M. Rangaswamy, M. Ramamurthy, M. Srinivas and Christopher Rajkumar, all independents.
T.R.Sunil of SUCI was the first candidate to file nomination after the poll notification was issued on Mar. 28.
The deadline for filing of nomination papers ends today at 3 pm. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place tomorrow (Apr.5) and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is Apr. 8. The voting will take place on Apr. 26 and the counting of votes will be taken up on Jun.4 after all the 7 phases of polling across the country comes to an end on June 1.
