2-day National Seminar on ‘Ornamental Plants’ begins

Nagaraju and others, is seen watering a sapling to inaugurate a two-day National Seminar on 'Ornamental Plants' at Maharani's College in city this morning.

A two-day National Seminar on ‘Ornamental Plants – Scope, opportunities and challenges,’ organised by Maharani’s Science College for Women, commenced this morning at the college premises on JLB Road here.

Inaugurating the Seminar by watering a sapling, D. Manjunath, Deputy Director, Department of Horticulture, said that there were thousands of ornamental plants which should be explored based on commercial viability. He pointed out that ornamental plants were very sensitive and should be nurtured with extra care.

He advised those venturing for growing ornamental plants to have a thorough study before taking a decision.

About 300 researchers from Mysuru, Mandya, Chikkamagalur and other places are participating in the Seminar which focuses on bonsai cultivation, mini landscaping, vertical gardening, hydroponics and other related topics. Resource persons from the field will deliberate and interact on the aforementioned topics during the two-day seminar that concludes tomorrow with the valedictory at 4 pm.
