230 nurses appointed to MMC&RI-attached hospitals

Mysore/Mysuru: In a measure aimed at improving health care, the city’s Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), which is celebrating its centenary next year, has appointed 230 staff nurses to serve in its five attached hospitals.

While K.R. Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital, located in the heart of the city will get 100 and 20 nurses respectively, the PKTB Hospital,  Princess Krishnajammanni Super Speciality Hospital and Trauma Care Centre, located along KRS Road, will get 10, 50 and 50 nurses in that order.

MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani told Star of Mysore that several nursing posts in the attached hospitals were vacant due to retirement and other reasons, which had led to problems in nursing care of patients. Now, nurses have been appointed after taking permission from the Government, she said adding that these nurses will be on temporary deputation.

Pointing out that preparations are being made for appointment of Assistant Professors in Princess Krishnajammanni Super Speciality Hospital and Trauma Care Centre, she said that the process of appointment based on roster system and other norms is going on. The recruitment process will commence once the  Medical Education Minister and other top officials of the Department give their nod.

Continuing, Dr. Dakshayani said that as for now, Professors and Assistant Professors associated with Super Specialty section of K.R. Hospital  are sent on deputation to serve at Princess Krishnajammanni Super Speciality Hospital and Trauma Care Centre.

She further said that the newly appointed nurses will be paid salaries out of the internally generated resources.

Stating that nursing care at MMC&RI attached hospitals had taken a hit due to shortage of nursing staff, she said now the problem has been addressed to a large extent following the fresh appointments.

Dr. Dakshayani also recalled that COVID patients admitted at PKTB, Princess Krishnajammanni Super Speciality Hospital and Trauma Centre were treated by Specialist Doctors sent on deputation from K.R. and Cheluvamba Hospitals.
