S. Shivarajappa chosen as President of District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana
Chamarajanagar: The District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and other departments of the District Administration have made all preparations for the success of the three-day Kannada literary meet ‘Akshara Jathre’ that will be held from Feb. 17 to 19 in city. Akshara Jathre has been organised as part of the 9th edition of the District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.
Earlier, such literary festival was held for two days, but for the first time the authorities have decided to conduct this event for three days.
Director of Oriental Research Institute of University of Mysore Dr. S. Shivarajappa has been elected as the President of this year’s District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.
Littérateurs Krishnamurthy Hanur, Horeyala Doreswamy, Dr. Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy, Dr. C. Naganna, Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy, Kumara Nijagunaswamiji, K.C. Shivappa and Dr. G.G. Manjunathan were the past Presidents of District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in the district.
The inauguration and valedictory of the Sammelana will be held in front of Sri Chamarajeshwaraswamy Temple. While, seminars and discussions will be conducted at J.H. Patel Auditorium at District Administration Bhavan. The President of the Sammelana will be brought to the venue in a procession passing through the main thoroughfares of the city on the inaugural day.
The first District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was held under the leadership of the then District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maleyuru Guruswamy, when Dr. H.S. Mahadevaprasad was the District Minister. Later, the second and third sammelana was held at Gundlupet and Kollegal towns.
“So far, Chamarajanagar has successfully conducted two District Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas. It is now hosting this event for the third time and all preparations are in full swing. People should co-operate for the success of this Sammelana,” said District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President B.S. Vinay.
Entries for book exhibition
The District Kannada Sahitya Parishat will also set up book exhibition stalls as part of the literary festival in its Office premises with all leading book publishers exhibiting their books at the expo.
Poets meet
Poets meet will also be held as part of the event. District Kannada Sahitya Parishat has also invited applications from poets to send their self written two poems of 20 lines each to S. Niranjankumar, 8/185, Niranjan Nilaya, near Marigudi Temple, Chamarajanagar – 57133.
