In two separate operations, Jayapura and Saraswathipuram Police have arrested three house burglars and have seized gold jewellery, silver articles, a car and a mobile phone, all worth about Rs. 3.14 lakh, from them.
In the first operation, Jayapura Police have nabbed a house burglar within 24 hours of the burglar committing the crime and have seized 80 grams gold jewellery worth Rs. 2.5 lakh from him.
The accused has been identified as Nanja alias Nanjesh, a resident of Kallahalli village, Jayapura Hobli in the taluk.
It is reported that Nanjesh, who was working as a mason, sneaked into the house of one Murthy in Udbur village on Mar. 13 at about 4.30 pm, when the latter was watering the plants in the backyard and had made away with two gold necklace, gold chain, a bracelet, finger ring and a pair of earrings weighing about 80 grams. Jayapura Inspector (in-Charge) Ganesh and staff, who rushed to the spot on receiving information, conducted mahazar, registered a case and took up the investigation.
Accused Nanjesh was arrested when he was waiting for a bus at Kallahalli Bus Stand at about 3 pm on Mar. 14 and recovered the jewellery which he was carrying in his pocket. During interrogation, Nanjesh is said to have told that he was waiting for the bus to head towards Mysuru to sell the stolen booty.
Nanjesh was produced before a Court which has remanded him to judicial custody.
In the second case, Saraswathipuram Police on Mar. 14, took a person into their custody who was found moving around in a suspicious manner near Muthoot Fincorp near Vijaya Bank Circle in T.K. Layout here. When the Police checked the person, identified as 21-year-old Ravi, a resident of Lakkuru Village in Gundlupet taluk, they found gold jewels in his pocket.
On interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed that he, along with his friend, had stolen the gold ornaments from houses in Bogadi, Sharadadevi Nagar and Janatha Nagar in city.
Based on the information provided by Ravi, the Police arrested his accomplice identified as 20-year-old Manikanta, a resident of KHB Colony in Hootagalli here and seized gold ornaments and silver articles worth Rs. 64,000, a mobile phone and the car used for the crime.
With the arrest of the duo, four house burglary cases in Saraswathipuram Police jurisdiction have been solved.
During interrogation, it was also learnt that the main accused in the case, who used to sell the stolen jewellery through persons from other States, is under judicial custody in Tamil Nadu and hunt is on for another absconding accused.
Saraswathipuram Inspector K.C. Poovaiah and staff K.T. Manjunath, Kantharaju, Ramaiah and H.V. Manjunath took part in the nabbing and seizing operation.
