32 Kabaddi teams to vie for Mayor’s Gold Cup

District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa to inaugurate the tournament at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium this evening

The stage is set for the Mayor’s Gold Cup Kabaddi Tournament being organised by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium. The four-day national level tournament which begins today will end on Nov. 12.

A total of 32 teams (16 men and 16 women) from Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Delhi, Secunderabad, Coimbatore, Kerala, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh and other places have arrived in the city. Around 22 referees and players have been accommodated at various hotels and guest houses across the city.

The tournament will be inaugurated by District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa at 6 pm. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait will preside. Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Dy. Mayor Rathna Lakshman, MCC Commissioenr G. Jagadeesha and MCC’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan Ambassador Javagal Srinath will be present.

The winning team in men’s category will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh. Runner-up, second runner-up and the fourth placed teams get a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh and Rs. 50,000 each respectively.

The winners in women’s category would take home a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh while the runner-up team would take Rs. One lakh cash prize. Third and fourth placed teams will get Rs. 50,000. Tournament organisers have also announced individual awards in various categories.
