35 burglary, robbery cases cracked

Nanjangud Sub-division Police arrest 10 dacoits; recover valuables worth Rs. 82 lakh

Mysuru: In a major operation, the Nanjangud Sub-division Police have cracked 35 burglary and robbery cases and have arrested 10 dacoits. The Police have also seized gold and other valuables worth Rs. 82 lakh including 1,005 gram gold, 3.5 kg silver, 5 cars and one autorickshaw.

Disclosing this at a press conference held at his office last evening, Mysuru Superintendent of Police C.B. Ryshyanth said that the arrested were Umesh, Gagan, Suresh, of Hootagalli in Mysuru, Mohammad Mushtaq and Mohammad Mubarak of Banavara in Hassan, Taslim Pasha of Kadur, Siddaraju, Mahesh, Prasad and Mohammad Munna of Shirangalli village in Kodagu district.

Following a series of burglaries and robberies in Nanjangud Sub-division, a special team was formed. The team traced old cases and found that Mahesh had 24 cases and another accused had 34 cases. Tracing the accused, the Police nabbed Taslim from Ajmer. Later, one-by-one, all accused were arrested.

All the arrested are professional dacoits and used to target lonely houses or those houses where the residents have left for long trips. They used to don the role of autorickshaw drivers and survey the houses. They used to keep a close watch of residents and if they find the houses locked for more than three days, they would break open the doors, the SP said.  They also used to rob people who come to take their autorickshaws. In the guise of ferrying passengers, they used to take them to secluded places and rob them of their gold, cash and costly mobiles. Cars seized from them include Honda Amaze, Ford Ikon and Swift Dezire, the SP added.

Cautioning the residents, the SP said that before leaving for holidays or locking the house, they must install Breach Alarm so that whenever the doors are broken, the alarm makes a sound, alerting the neighbours. This way, alert neighbours can even catch hold of the dacoits and hand them over to the Police, he added.
