40th State Masters Athletic Championship 2019: City athletes bag 68 medals

The Mysore District Masters Athletic Association (MDMAA) athletes, taking part in the 40th State Masters Athletic Meet 2019 held at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru on Nov.15 and 16, won a rich haul of 68 medals (31 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals) in the Championship.

In the 50-plus men’s category, Amarnath won three golds in 100m, 100m Hurdles and Long-Jump events.

In the Men’s 60-plus category, B. Basavaraju won 3 gold medals in 400m, 800m and 1500m events. In the Men’s 65-plus category, S. Mahadev won two golds in 200m & 400m. He also won a silver medal in the 100m event.

In the Men’s 35-plus category, Vijay Shankar won two gold medals in High-Jump and Long-Jump events. He also won a silver medal in the 110m Hurdles event. M. Yogendra won two gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m in the 55 plus category. B.K. Somashekar won two gold medals in the 60-plus category in the 100m, 200m events.

In the Women’s 75-plus category, Prabha Mani won three gold medals in Shot-Put, Hammer-Throw and Discus-Throw events. In the 60-plus Women’s section, Rani B. Raju won two golds in High-Jump and Javelin-Throw. Rani also won a bronze medal in the Shot-Put event.

In the 70-plus Women’s section, Parvathi Kanthraj won two gold medals in 100m and 200m events. She also won a silver medal in the Discus-Throw event.

All the medal-winners have earned selection to represent the State in the National Masters Athletic Championship to be held at Manipur during February 2020.
