A total of 625 budding sports talents took part in the two-day selection trials held for the admission to sports schools and hostel jointly conducted by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) at Chamundi Vihar Stadium here on Monday and Tuesday.
Sports enthusiasts, both boys and girls, studying in 5th std., 7th and 10th std., and aged under-14 and under-18 years from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Udupi districts took part in the selections held in athletics, hockey, football, gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball, basket ball and judo in junior and senior categories.
Among the 625 students, 231 boys and 108 girls took part in the junior category while 201 boys and 65 girls took part in senior category selection trials. More students were seen taking part in the selection trials held in hockey and athletics. In all, 35 coaches screened the students as per the guidelines issued by the Department under the guidance of DYES Deputy Director Bhaskar Nayak.
