Sir,
Nowadays, I notice several 80-feet roads in Mysuru City shrinking due to the erection of medians/dividers by either the MUDA or the MCC. This practice is not only unscientific but also a daily inconvenience for the general public.
For instance, in Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 2nd Phase, the Marimallappa’s School Road is facing severe congestion due to the construction of a road divider/median. What was once an 80-foot road now resembles a narrow 20 feet lane on either side of the divider.
Vehicles parked on both sides of the road further reduce the usable width, worsening the situation. MUDA/MCC originally planned for an 80-feet road, but by installing these dividers, they have turned spacious roads into cramped, unscientific, and congested ones. Another example is Sahukar Chennaiah Road in T.K. Layout, where most residents were unhappy with the divider/median. However, it is rumoured that a powerful politician pushed this through, leaving no room for opposition.
I fail to see who benefits from constructing these medians/dividers, except perhaps the builders themselves! I urge MUDA and MCC authorities to study this issue and halt the construction of dividers/medians on any 80-feet roads from now on, preserving the original width as planned in the layout.
