City celebrates Kempegowda Jayanti; Observes Intl. Domestic Workers Day and International Day Against Drug Abuse
Mysuru: A month after the city witnessed a series of election rallies by different political parties almost every day in the run up to the May 12 Assembly polls, the city was witness to Jathas (Rallies) of a different kind today.
A huge colourful rally marked Bengaluru Founder Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations jointly organised by the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayantotsava Samithi in city.
Adichunchanagiri Mysuru Shakha Mutt Seer Sri Somanathananda Swamiji and Tourism Minister S.R. Mahesh launched the rally by showering flower petals on the statue of Nadaprabhu placed atop a decorated vehicle, in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple at the Palace North Gate, in the presence of a large gathering.
The rally passed through K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road and Vinoba Road, before culminating at Kalamandira, where a stage programme was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Mahesh by lighting the lamp and showering flower petals.

MP R. Dhruvanarayan, ZP President Nayeema Sulthana, MLC Marithibbegowda and others were present.
A host of cultural and folk troupes, including Nandi Kunitha, Naadaswara, Dollu Kunitha, Veerabhadra Kunitha, Puja Kunitha, Kamsale, Garudi Gombe etc., accompanied the procession, lending colour and spectacle to the rally.
MP Pratap Simha, MLAs L. Nagendra and Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah, Mayor B. Bhagyavathi, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa, ZP CEO P. Shivashankar, several Corporators and other officials were present.
Intl. Domestic Workers Day
Over a hundred domestic helps from across the city took part in a rally organised by the Mysuru Domestic Workers Trade Union in association with Dhwani Mahila Okkoota, marking the International Domestic Workers Day in city.
The rally, which commenced from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, passed through the Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Gandhi Square, Dufferin Clock Tower, D. Devaraj Urs Road and JLB Road before culminating at the Institution of Engineers on JLB Road, where a stage programme was held.

Even as the rally passed through, the participants enacted street plays at prominent Circles and public joints aimed at creating awareness on various issues concerning them.
The participants also held placards highlighting their demands, which included issuance of Identity Card, job security, minimum wages and social security among others.
Trade Union President Girijamma, Secretary Chandramma, office-bearer Premalatha, Project Co-ordinator Ravichandra, Mahila Okkoota’s Nalina Kumari, Shivamma and others were present.
Rally against Drug Abuse
An awareness rally marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in city. The rally which was organised under the aegis of the Office of the District Mental Health Programme Officer, commenced from the DHO Office in Nazarbad and passed through SP Office Circle, Shanthaveri Gopalagowda Hospital Circle, Nazarbad Main Road and Theobald Road, before returning to starting point.
Students of Government ITI College took part in the rally, holding placards that carried various messages on the ill-effects of drug abuse and other bad habits.
