Gayana Sabha, Mysuru, had recently organised a Hindustani Music Concert by A.K. Gurudutt at Kalpa Kshetra, Vijayanagar 4th Stage. He was accompanied by Pandit Ramesh Dhannur on tabla and Vighnesh Bhagawat on harmonium.
Gurudutt hails from an illustrious family of musicians and Sanskrit scholars of Mysuru. His great-grandparents were revered by the erstwhile Royal family of Mysuru. He was initiated into music at the age of four by his mother, and after further training under reputed Gurus, he moved to Kolkata in 2013 to be inducted as a disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Gurudutt commenced the concert with vilambitkhyal of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in Raag Bihag. This was followed by bandishes in Jhaptaal and Teen taal with elaborate thaans and sargam rendering.
The thumri in piloo brought out the outstanding mastery Gurudutt has on swara and laya. The Dadra in raagmaand, ‘Yaadpiyakiaay’, which was popularised by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, was beautifully presented. The concert ended with the Dasarapada ‘Thoredujeevisabahude.’
The accompanists Vidwan Ramesh Dhannur and VighneshBhagavat gave effective support to Gurudutt.
