Sir,
Mysuru mourns the loss of ex-MLA Vasu, a politician known for his down-to-earth demeanour and compassion. My first encounter with him was during his tenure as the Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation, regarding a public interest issue in Gokulam 3rd Stage. Despite being surrounded by admirers, he graciously afforded me a patient audience and promptly addressed the matter within days.
In 1994, I visited his home in Siddarthanagar seeking his assistance in arranging a meeting with Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, whom I wished to invite as the chief guest for an annual conference of surgeons in February of that year.
Vasu’s kindness was evident as he accompanied me and my friend, orthopaedic surgeon Dr. N. Nityananda Rao, to Bengaluru via a non-stop train. His willingness to personally facilitate such requests, despite his role as the political secretary to the CM, was a testament to his exceptional character.
Recently, I inadvertently dialled his number and promptly disconnected. Within seconds, he returned the call to inquire about the reason for my call. Such humility and responsiveness were hallmarks of Vasu’s personality.
He was a politician of unparalleled calibre, remembered fondly by the citizens of Mysuru for his remarkable courtesy and genuine concern for others.
