Mysuru: Amrutha, Prakurti and Spandana, 7th standard Kannada medium students at Government Higher Primary, V.V. Mohalla, participated in a quiz programme held at Mahajana High School and Vinayakanagar High School here recently.
Besides playing the role of the Quiz Masters, these children occupied the hot seat. They were questioned by Dr. R. Purnima, the Director of Children’s Literary Club, the Faculty and the students of the respective Schools. At times the questions posed were in Kannada, but their answers were most of the time in English. This effort of the Kannada medium students was immensely applauded by all.
Amrutha (granddaughter of a choultry worker), Prakruti (daughter of a garment factory worker) and Spandana (daughter of a plumber) held the audience spell-bound with their quick reply. These children were taught nearly 250 items (covering more than 12 areas) by Dr. Purnima, and the questions were based on the same. This was an attempt to initiate and enthuse children from the underprivileged strata of society to participate in English Quiz programmes with a difference — no fee was charged; no competition conducted.
