River Lakshmanatheertha is in full spate in Hunsur as can be seen in this photograph of the old bridge taken last evening.
Heavy rains in Kutta, Brahmagiri ranges, Nagarahole National Park, Balele and Nittoor in Kodagu has contributed to the rise in water of Lakshmanatheertha that takes birth at Brahmagiri Hills.
Traffic on this bridge was banned for four days and this morning, only light motor vehicles are being allowed. Policemen have been posted and barricades have been placed on either side of the bridge.
Though heavy vehicles and other traffic use the bypass road to reach Kodagu from Mysuru and Bengaluru, buses from Kerala take this bridge after 11 pm every day to avoid over 12 road humps on the bypass road.
