Mysuru: It is those who derive great joy in serving the society in many little ways, a true servant of the people, said Commissioner of Textile Development and Director of Handlooms and Textiles Dr. M.R. Ravi.
He was speaking at the installation ceremony of the new team of Rotary Heritage Club of Mysore at a private hotel in Hebbal Industrial Area here yesterday and said that if people have a good heart then good work will always follow and the Rotary organisation has continued to do this kind of yeoman service.
The society has given us enough and likewise it expects a lot from us. But before this, one must understand the concept and boundaries of social service. Through service one can address the problems of the society. However, service must always be combined with passion and commitment. Today there are a lot of people involved in social service but very few are there who do it selflessly, he said.
There is something unique about the name Heritage itself, because there are many cities in the country with a cultural, traditional and a background of heritage but Mysuru is the only city that has a combination of all these together, he said.
Rotary Heritage has taken up many social service projects and the new team of 2019-20 headed by Rtn. Talakad Manjunath will also continue to follow this tradition, he hoped.
The President has many challenges before him and he has to take the whole team with him to achieve the many aims and objectives he has planned for the year. Only if one has the spirit of patience and sacrifice, is social service possible. Today there are people who are so selfish that they think only of their immediate family and their homes, said Dr. Ravi.
Just as the digital era is bridging nations together, Rotary, as an international organisation, is helping communities come together throughout the world by taking everyone into confidence.
However, it is sad that technology is destroying relationships. The day has arrived where to sit with our own children for a meal at the dining table we have to send messages on the mobile phone, he regretted.
The members of Rotary Heritage Club donating cows is a very laudable initiative. Such useful donations help one build lives and this is the true meaning of service to the society, he said.
Awareness about cleanliness 70 years later: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, he created awareness about cleanliness (Swachhata) among the people of the country. Since he took a tough stand on swachhata, the awareness is being created right from villages to towns and cities. But it is a sad reflection that none of the earlier Governments concentrated on cleanliness which shows the functioning style of the Governments of the past, he said.
No discipline in the society: We as a society are still a people who want to grab everything that is available. If we observe this, we realise that we have not yet matured as a disciplined society. This also means the present day youth do not have the tolerance to learn discipline. Everyone must understand that there is a debt he owes to the society and as long as one does not realise it, there will be indiscipline in the society and this is what everyone needs to understand. Even if one does not do good work, at least one must refrain doing bad to the society, advised Dr. Ravi.
The outgoing President (2018-19) Rtn. Shivarudrappa handed over the charge to the incoming President (2019-20) Rtn. Talakad Manjunath in the presence of Past District Governor K.A. Kuriachhan (Kurian) who installed the new team.
Rotary District Governor (Rotary International District 3181) Rtn. Joseph Mathew, Assistant Governor Dr. B.M. Subraya, Rtn. K. Manjunath, Rtn. Dr. K. Murugesh, Immediate Past Secretary Rtn. P. Surendra, Rtn G. M. Suresh and others were present.
