Mysuru: District Kannada Sahitya Parishat together with Dr. K.S. Gowdaiah Prathishtana, K.R. Nagar, had organised a talk on freedom fighter Thagaduru Ramachandra Rao at the Institution of Engineers on JLB Road here on Apr. 29 under a lecture series on unforgettable dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, District Freedom Fighters Association President Dr. M.G. Krishnamurthy opined that the country should emerge with only two political parties to contest in polls.
He regretted that over 2,000 parties have registration in India but only a few contest in polls and added that caste has become an important factor in every party.
Recalling the fighting spirit of Thagaduru Ramachandra Rao, he opined that such a spirit is missing in youth today. He observed that politicians are misusing democracy as personal property. He pooh-poohed the false assurances given by political leaders during election campaign which were unrealistic and illogical. Spending crores of rupees during election itself is corruption, he said.
Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, writer Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy, Theatre Artiste N. Nagachandra, Prathishtana President G. Prakash and others were present.
Freedom fighters Ashwathanarayan, T. Venkatachalaiah and T. Puttanna were felicitated on the occasion.
