Mysore/Mysuru: Abhiyenthararu – A Theatre for Engineers was established in the year 1993 by the Engineers and for the Engineers, which is a unique and first-of-its-kind premier theatre group in the State.
It has now crossed the milestone of 29 years and to mark the occasion, a Rashtriya Ranga Utsava (National Theatre Festival) is being organised in association with Kannada & Culture Department and Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, at Kiru Rangamandira (Mini Theatre) in Kalamandira premises from March 22 to March 26.
The Theatre Festival will be inaugurated on March 22 at 6.30 pm by Karnataka Nataka Academy former Chairman Srinivas G. Kappanna in the presence of Kannada & Culture Department Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy and renowned theatre person, film director and actor Rajendra Karanth.
The Rashtriya Ranga Utsava comprises of five plays of different languages and States to be staged at 7 pm everyday. Details are as follows:
March 22 – Play: Amma Mattu Suhail (Kannada); Troupe : The Mahi Theatre, Bengaluru; Playwright and Direction : Karthik Hebbar.
March 23 – Play: Mallige Thotadalli Murder (Kannada); Troupe : Abhiyenthararu, Mysuru; Playwright and Direction : Rajendra Karanth.
March 24 – Play: The Trap (Malayalam); Troupe : Kanal Samskarika Vedi, Thiruvananthapuram; Playwright and Direction : T. Aromal.
March 25 – Play: Wedding Anniversary (Hindi); Troupe : Abhinay Kalyan, Mumbai; Direction : Abhizit Zunjarrao.
March 26 – Play: Mamatheya Suli (Kannada) — based on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s ‘Sri Ramayana Darshanam’; Troupe : Kalabhi Theatre, Mangaluru; Design and Direction : Ganesh Mandarthi.
