Accused on the run since 20 years finally arrested

Mysore/Mysuru: A man accused of stealing sandalwood pieces, who had failed to attend Court proceedings and was on the run since 20 years, has been finally arrested by city’s Krishnaraja (KR) Police.

The accused is Doreswamy of Srirampura village, Chunchanakatte hobli in K.R. Nagar taluk. He was arrested by the Police on July 4 at Karighatta village in Srirangapatna taluk and was produced before a Court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

A case under Karnataka Forest Act 86 and 87 and IPC Section 379 was registered by KR Police against Doreswamy on Mar. 27, 2001. But since 2003, Doreswamy failed to attend the Court proceedings and had gone absconding.

When KR Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chandranayak and Head Constable Harish, who were appointed to trace Doreswamy, went to Srirampura village and enquired about him (Doreswamy), they learnt that he was missing since 20 years.

Continuing their operation to trace Doreswamy, the Police, based on the clues, traced Doreswamy at Karighatta and succeeded in arresting him on July 4, 2023.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi and KR Sub-Division ACP Gangadharaswamy guided KR Inspector Mahesh, ASI Chandranayak and Head Constable Harish in the nabbing operation.
