Mysore/Mysuru: The much awaited theatre event of the year, the annual National Theatre Festival, Bahuroopi- 2020 will be held in Rangayana from Feb. 14 to Feb. 19.
Marking the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the theme for this year’s Bahuroopi is ‘Gandhi Patha’ (Gandhi’s Path).
In an effort to involve all sections of the society including theatre artistes, litterateurs and common man in this year’s theatre festival, two unique programmes, ‘Mane Manege Gandhi Patha’ and ‘Mysurinalli Gandhi Hejje’ were held this morning.
As part of today’s event, folk singers Veeranna Muttanna Angadi and team visited the residence of Additional Deputy Commissioner B.R. Poornima in Jayalakshmipuram in city this morning and invited her to Bahuroopi theatre festival by singing Lavani and Gigi Pada.
Organisers of Bahuroopi will be visiting Mane Manchamma Devi Temple, Mandi Mohalla in city and the chief priest and the devotees of the temple will also be invited later this evening. One can recall that, on his visit to Mysuru in 1927, Mahatma Gandhi had visited Mane Manchamma Devi Temple with a view to promote equality and curb untouchability that prevailed in the region. Similarly, a team of Bahuroopi will be visiting the residence of writer Latha, and invite her in a similar unique manner, later this evening.
Theatre person and Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa, Rangayana artistes Hulugappa Kattimani, Geetha Montadka and others were present.
