Bengaluru: Bowing to the demand of teachers and lecturers, the State Government has passed an order merging their additional wages with the basic pay.
The order states that the additional wages of teachers and lecturers, which came into effect from June 1, 2016, will be merged with their basic pay, coming into effect from Nov.1.
The Government had sanctioned additional wages for Head Masters and teachers of government and aided schools as well for lecturers and Principals of PU Colleges, coming into effect from June 1, 2016. But the additional wages were categorised as personal pay during the implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission. Such categorisation had led to decrease in the allowances attached with basic pay, which was strongly opposed by the teaching fraternity.
Now, bowing to the demands of teachers, the government has decided to merge the sanctioned additional wages with basic pay. The government’s decision has been welcomed by the teaching fraternity.
MLC and PU College Principals Association President K.T. Srikantegowda has said that with the government conceding the demand of the teaching fraternity, the Association’s call for an indefinite stir starting today (Oct.22) has been withdrawn.
