Mysuru: The Department of Mechanical Engineering and “Aerotantrix,” the Student Chapter of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, have set up an Aeromodelling Lab in the Golden Jubilee Block of the Institute for aero-enthusiasts.
The Lab was inaugurated by Dr. Krishnaswamy Ravindra, Professor, Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, Saint Louis, USA, here recently.
Various aero-models fabricated by students and other aerospace related projects done by them under the guidance of P. Srinag, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIE and Faculty Advisor, Aerotantrix, were on display.
Dr. Ravindra spoke about his research experience in various fields such as Supersonic transportation, Cavitation, Bio-inspired Micro Aerial Vehicle and Inflatable Airfoils. He motivated students to take up research work in the field of Microfluidics and fluid dynamics to solve societal issues like desalination of water and providing clean air.
Dr. Ravindra wished the college aeromodelling team well for their participation in the upcoming SAE Aero design contest.
Dr. M.V. Achutha, Professor and HoD of Mechanical Engineering, NIE, briefed about various initiatives taken up by the Department like offering electives on Computational Fluid Dynamics and aerodynamics, initiation of student chapter Aerotantrix, conducting workshops and events in the field of Aerospace Engineering etc., to provide a platform for students to gain exposure in the domain of aerospace engineering.
G.S. Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary, NIE and S.R. Gaikwad, Public Relations Executive were present on the occasion.
M. Rakesh, K. Naveen, S.N. Chidananda Murthy and Bharath Raj, Assistant Professors, were the Coordinators for the event.
