RCB wins maiden WPL 2024 title
In the Women’s Premier League 2024 final held at Arun Jaitley Stadium here yesterday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured the title with an eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC).
The team ended RCB’s 16-year wait for glory by clinching their maiden title.
Opting to bat first, DC were bowled out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs. RCB successfully chased down the target of 114 with three balls to spare.
During the initial innings, Delhi Capitals made a promising start against the RCB spinners, reaching 64 without any loss in just 43 balls.
However, their momentum swiftly diminished as they suffered a sudden collapse, losing all 10 wickets for a mere 49 runs. Once DC reached 72 for 3 halfway through their innings, their key player Meg Lanning, who was striving to revive their fortunes, was dismissed leg before wicket by Shreyanka. This turn of events led to DC being dismissed for 113 runs.
Notable contributions from RCB came from Smriti Mandhana (31), Sophie Devine (32), and Ellyse Perry (35 not out).
