Mysore/Mysuru: The “Age-Friendly Mysore Project” (AFM), a collaboration between the Department of Geriatrics at JSS AHER, Mysuru, Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII), Mysuru and the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA, to examine how Mysuru can plan for the growing needs of its elderly population will begin from January 2024.
“The project will interview a cross-section of people aged 60 to 80 years to gain their viewpoints about what they need for healthy aging,” says Dr. Karl Krupp, a researcher from the University of Arizona. Krupp has a Fulbright Global Scholar Award to study the needs of the elderly. “Seniors often don’t complain, so their perspectives haven’t been prioritised,” says Krupp.
The Project, initiated by World Health Organisation’s Age-Friendly Cities Framework, will interview seniors about factors like community and healthcare, transportation, housing, social participation, outdoor spaces and buildings, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, and communication and information.
