Mysore/Mysuru: At a function organised by Mysuru Kannada Vedike to commemorate International Women’s Day at Pathrakartara Bhavan in the city recently, women achievers from various fields were conferred with ‘Ahalyabai Holkar’ awards.
Speaking at the function, Government Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) A.I. Divya said that though women have overtaken men in many fields and have recorded progress in their careers, atrocities are still continuing against women. ‘We have many rights for women as well as laws to protect women from atrocities and we should be aware of them. Women should be paid equally at work places as per labour laws. Also,there are laws to safeguard women from family atrocities as well. It is the intention of International Women’s Day to create awareness among womenfolk about their rights and protection available to them under various laws,” added APP Divya.
Women achievers M. Manonmani, Dhanalakshmi, Rukmini Chandran, Dr. Jyothi Rechanna, P.S. Padmalatha, S. Shwetha, Sanjana, K. Sangeeta, Saroja Bai and Lakshmi were conferred with Ahalayabai Holkar awards. Journalist Rashmi Koti, Dr. K. Leela Prakash, Bharati, Vedike President S. Balakrishna, Naala Beedhi Ravi, Malini, Kaveramma and others were present at the function.
