Mysore/Mysuru: Activists of All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO)staged a protest near DC’s Office today demanding the continuation of last year’s school textbooks for this academic year also.
“The recent revision of school textbooks has created a controversy and attracted objections from across the State, forcing the State Government to correct the mistakes related to Basavanna. But it is silent about correcting the anomalies in the textbooks with regard to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Savitribai Phule, Kanakadasa and Purandaradasa,” said the protesters.
“Many texts which promote morality and values written by eminent writers like A.N. Murthy Rao, P. Lankesh, Sara Aboobacker and others have been removed. Earlier, lessons about revolutionary leader Bhagat Singh was removed but included later when it faced a lot of criticism from the public. Even after that, many mistakes were noticed in revised textbooks. When this is the situation, it is better to continue with the textbooks of last year,” they demanded. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the DC, addressed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, urging him to continue with last year’s textbooks. Leaders Ugranarasimhegowda, G.P. Basavaraj, AIDSO President Subhash, Secretary Chandrakala and others participated in the protest.
