The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has launched a joint survey and inspection of 206.12 acres of land marked for expansion since yesterday. The inspection concludes tomorrow.
The multi-agency inspection involves Director of Mysore Airport P.V. Reasons…
The inspection is mainly intended at verifying the boundaries, assess site conditions and identify encumbrances if any, before finalising the documentation of the same. It is a prelude to handing over of the total extent of land by KSSIDC to airport authorities.
The proposal
It has been proposed to extend the existing runway from 1.7 kms to 2.3 kms to facilitate the operation of big aircraft as mentioned above. Along with this, it has been planned to build a dedicated cargo terminal to enable agricultural and industrial exports that may give a boost to Geographical Indication (GI) products of Mysuru.
Potential boost
Most importantly, once the Airport is expanded, it shall be a big impetus to tourism related activities, as the increased air connectivity to Mysuru, will prove as a premier gateway for domestic and international tourists, more so during Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara, which is a global attraction. It will also attract major investments and create trade opportunities, besides generating employment in the region.
AAI grateful
In a release, AAI has stated, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government of Karnataka, KSSIDC, KIADB, CNNL, KPTCL, NHAI, for their proactive support. This collaborative effort will transform Myssore Airport into a hub capable of handling wide-bodied aircraft, boosting tourism, trade and regional development.”
Regional aviation hub
The Mysore Airport authorities are hopeful of transforming Mysuru as a regional aviation hub, connecting the city to global destinations, thus strengthening its contribution to national economy.
