Fifth seed Tamil Nadu lad Ashwath Arjun and second seed Rashmi Wagde of Maharashtra won the boys and girls U-14 singles titles respectively on the concluding day of Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Central’s AITA Talent Series U-14 (boys & girls) Tennis Tournament held at R. Nagaraj Tennis Centre, SJCE Courts yesterday.
Playing a consistent baseline game Ashwath Arjun staved off the challenge from the local lad and unseeded D.K. Harsha (KAR) in two straight sets 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the title. In the girls U-14 singles final, second seed Rashmi Wagde (MAH) scored a well-earned win over third-seed G. Yashomathi (KAR) 5-7, 6-1 (11-9) in the final to emerge victorious in the U-14 girls singles.
Result: Final: U-14: Boys: Ashwath Arjun (TN) bt Harsha (KAR) 6-4, 6-1. Girls: Rashmi Wagde (MAH) bt G. Yashomathi (KAR) 5-7, 6-1 (11-9).
