Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their various demands, hundreds of Mid-day meal workers under the banner of Karnataka State Akshara Dasoha Workers Union, staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here yesterday.
The demands included social security for mid-day meal cooks and helpers, Health Insurance cover, paid leave and pension, among others. Claiming that there were over 5,300 mid-day meal workers serving in Mysuru district for the past 17 years and were paid an honorarium of just Rs. 2,600, they urged the government to pay them minimum Government wages, regularise their services and provide them all statutory benefits.
Trade Union leaders N. Muddukrishna,Chandrashekar Meti, Basavaraj and others took part in the protest.
