New Delhi: After meeting PM Narendra Modi yesterday, Karnataka CM H.D. Kumaraswamy met top Congress leaders and discussed Cabinet formation and portfolio sharing.
At the meeting held at the residence of Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kumaraswamy reportedly said that the JD(S) was ready to give up its claim on key portfolios including Irrigation and Energy but would not make a compromise on Finance portfolio.
The meeting was attended by Senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Ahmed Patel, former CM Siddharamaiah, Deputy CM Dr. G. Parameshwara and Senior leader D.K. Shivakumar during the course of the meeting.
The Congress, which gave unconditional support to the JD(S), reportedly demanded key portfolios of Finance, Home and Industries under which the Department of Mining comes, besides Power, Irrigation, Public Works, Excise, Bengaluru Development and Primary Education.
Azad also held a separate meeting with Karnataka Congress leaders in the evening and reportedly communicated the JD(S) view to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is on a tour of USA.
After the meeting, the Congress claimed that the ‘issues’ would be resolved soon, while the JD(S) said that the talks between the two allies were inconclusive and would resume after a day or two.
