Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday gave a call to all the parties to include the proposal of constructing a balancing reservoir across river Cauvery at Mekedatu in their election manifestos.
Gowda said, “We will be announcing about the proposed reservoir in our JD(S) manifesto and by replicating the initiative, all the other parties including BJP and Congress, should extend their support to the project.”
Condemning the move of Tamil Nadu Government led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has opposed Mekedatu project, Gowda said, there is nothing to worry about, but we will announce our decision to support the project by including it in the manifesto.
The political interference in the matters of land, water and language are not acceptable. However, setting aside party affiliations there is a necessity to make concerted efforts towards the implementation of Mekedatu project that is aimed at addressing the drinking water requirements of Bengaluru City, added Gowda.
State Government, Chief Minister, Congress, BJP and JD(S) should resolve to build the reservoir after Lok Sabha polls, he said.
