Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly condemning the Centre for bringing amendments to the Flag Code by allowing use of polyester and machine made flags, city’s Dhwaja Satyagraha Samithi, which has been organising protests for the past few days ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, has decided to take the struggle to the National level.
Addressing a press meet here recently, senior theatre activist Prasanna Heggodu posed ten questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking answers to them. The questions are:
1. Why was Khadi removed from the National Flag?
2. Why are you getting Flags made out of imported synthetics and fabrics, sold through Government offices?
3. Whether the fact that incorrect dimensions and size of the Flag and incorrect number of cogs in Ashoka Chakra has not come to your notice?
4. Our Flag is representative of Non-violence. Why did you send out a message that the country is pro-violence by launching the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Flag at Kargil?
5. How much of taxpayers money is spent on making and distribution of synthetic flags?
6. Is the purported news that the India Flag made in China is being officially sold, really true?
7. There is no need to bring the National Flag down after sunset. Is it a right move to make amendments to the Flag Code?
8. The Har Ghar Tiranga was a pre-independence desi slogan aimed at driving out the British. Now, is it right to carry out Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by ignoring swadeshi products and favouring flags made out of imported fabrics?
9. It is learnt that the Khadi Commission is selling pure Khadi flags at a high price. Is it true?
10. Whether the fact that several academies are forcing writers, intellects and artists to support Government programmes, has not come to your notice?
Stating that the flag movement launched earlier this week will go on until the Government comes up with convincing replies for the open questions asked, Prasanna urged the Government to withdraw the amendments to the Flag Code and thus save Khadi and Village Industries from total collapse.
Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolana’s Basavaraj Patil, All India Weavers Federation President Sangappa Mante, Akhila Bharat Ekta Parishat’s B.V. Rajagopal, his wife Gill K. Harris and Samithi Convenor Prof. Kalachannegowda were present at the press meet, in which a National Flag made out of pure Khadi was displayed.
