Mysuru: Displaying solidarity with the skilled workers like autorickshaw and car drivers who are not educated, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs H.N. Ananth Kumar said that amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, to repeal educational qualifications for issuance of Driving Licences (DLs) and to extend benefits to this section of the society, would be effected soon.
He said that former Minister S.A. Ramdas had mooted this idea. A delegation from Mysuru led by Ramdas would meet Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of State for Revenue Shiv Pratap Shukla and also Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Narendra Singh Tomar in connection with the amendment and extension of benefits, such as insurance coverage and housing to drivers.
Ananth Kumar recalled that he had laid the foundation stone for Autonagar in the city in 1999. “Automobile mechanics are actually doctors of our vehicles and their skills need to be recognised. They will also be covered under the social security schemes,” he added.
