Ancient coins and notes expo marks International Museum Day

Mysore/Mysuru: Marking International Museum Day celebrations, the Department of Archaeology, Museums & Heritage had organised Numismatics Expo of ancient coins and currency notes by noted Numismatist P.K. Keshavamurthy of Hunsur at the Department premises in Dasara Exhibition Grounds on May 18.

Coins used in 5th Century BC, Coins of Greeks and Romans and Indian Coins used during the period of Kushan, Gupta, Satavahana, Kadamba, Chola, Pandya and other Indian dynasties of Indian origin including the Moghuls, Mysore Kings, Regional Satraps, Pre-Independence British, Portuguese and notes and coins of independent India  were on display at the expo.

Students and Professors of Kuvempunagar Govt. Degree College and Chamarajendra Government College of Visual Arts (CAVA)  visited the Museum on the occasion and had a glimpse of the rare collection of ancient coins and notes.

Railway Museum

Commemorating the Interna-tional Museum Day, Mysuru Rail Museum had offered free entry to children from orphanages, differently-abled schools and those below 12 years of age between 10 am and 5.30 pm.
