Animals and birds from Assam and Meghalaya Zoos arrive at Mysuru Zoo

Mysuru: The Mysuru Zoo, under Animal Exchange Programme, has received animals and birds from Assam and Meghalaya Zoos.

The animals and birds arrived by train to city on Mar.8 at about 9 pm. They were accompanied by the veterinarians and staff of both the Zoos and the health condition of the animals and birds are stable.

The animals and birds received by the Mysuru Zoo are: Two pairs of the Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus); one pair of Brahminy Shell Duck (Tendorna femiginea); two pairs of Barking Deer (Muntiacus Muntjac); one pair of Four Horned Antelope (Tetracerus Quadricornis); one pair of Brow Antlered Deer (Rucervus Eldii Eldii); one pair of Leopard Cat (Fells Bengalensis) and one male Himalayan Black Bear. From the above list of animal Shilong Zoo, Meghalaya has spared a male Himalayan Black Bear as a gift and above animals and birds were brought to Mysuru Zoo for the purpose of enrichment of animal collections of the Zoo, conservation and breeding.

Further, the Mysuru Zoo is giving one Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris); one pair of Black Buck (Antilope Cervicapra) and two Common Peafowl (Pavo Cristatus), which were transported through V.P.H. Train of Bengaluru-Guwahati Express.

The animals and birds were accompanied by the Director, veterinarians and staff of Assam Zoo on Mar.9, according to a press release from Mysuru Zoo Executive Director C. Ravishankar.
