‘Anna Bhagya’ rice goes missing from godown in Nanjangud

Sr. Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, along with officials from Karnataka State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation verifying stocks at the godown.

Nanjangud:  With Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy yet to take a firm decision on rolling back the cuts in food grains to beneficiaries under the previous government’s flagship scheme of Anna Bhagya, which he (HDK) had announced in his July 5 budget, over a 1,000 quintals of rice and 28 quintals of tur dal have gone missing from a godown in APMC yard of the town.

Sr. Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, along with officials from Karnataka State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation at Bengaluru, visited the godown yesterday for verification of stocks, when to their astonishment, found 1,165 quintals of rice and 28.66 quintals of tur dal short of stock. The officials, after stock verification, found over 2,300 bags of rice, each of 50 kg and 28.66 quintals of tur dal missing from the godown.

Even as the misappropriation of Anna Bhagya food grains was unearthed by the officials, the Godown Manager Mylaraiah has reportedly gone absconding. As Mylaraiah could not be traced, Dr. Rameshwarappa lodged a complaint with Nanjangud Town Police Station on the alleged misappropriation of food grains.
