The Annual Athletic Meet of St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru, was held on Feb. 23 at the College football grounds in Bannimantap.
Sudharshan, Karnataka State Volleyball Coach, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the meet by hoisting the College Flag. This was followed by March-Past, featuring a total of 22 teams comprising both undergraduate and postgraduate students from various streams.
In his address, the chief guest commended the institute for its commitment to sports and encouraged students to pursue excellence in both academics and athletics. Drawing inspiration from sports icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Michael Jordan, he emphasised the importance of perseverance and determination in achieving success.
On the occasion, special recognition was accorded to outstanding athletes — Abubin Shaklain, a final year B.Com student, who has bagged gold medal in football at the Dasara Sports CM Cup-2023. Additionally, he showcased his skills representing both Mysuru District and the Karnataka Olympic Association. Prem Raj, another outstanding athlete, who represented the nation and participated in international events held in Nepal and Jaipur, where he secured gold medal in handball. Keerthana, an undergraduate student and Adithiya, a postgraduate student, who demonstrated exceptional skill in badminton at the Mysore University tournament.
Earlier, the event commenced with a grand procession by NCC Cadets and St. Mathaiyas School Band. Barnath and his team rendered the invocation. Rev. Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector, St. Philomena’s Institutions, administered the oath to the students.
