Mysore/Mysuru: The annual Kailpoldh festival get-together was held on Sept. 17 at Kodava Samaja premises in Vijayanagar 1st Stage. It was a day-long event and included events such as the traditional Kodava Ayudha Puja, sports and games, lucky dip, honouring eminent Kodavas and distribution of scholarship to meritorious children.
The main event was held at the ‘Gurumane’ where Virajpet MLA Ajjikuttira S. Ponnanna, who is the Legal Advisor to Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, was the chief guest. Kodava Samaja President Mechanda M. Shashi Ponnappa presided.
In his address, Ponnanna said Kodava culture is unique and such events as hosted by the Samaja binds families. Stressing on the need to preserve and promote one’s culture, the MLA said it is very appreciative that the culture, family bond and the heritage of Kodavas is being promoted across the globe by the community by organising festivals and sports events.
He called upon the community elders to effectively pass on the customs, traditions and culture to the younger generations.
Samaja Vice-President Malachira M. Ponnappa, Hon. Secretary Mukkatira B. Jeevan, Joint Secretary Appanderanda Tara Somaiah and Treasurer Machimada P. Nanaiah were present.
Scholarships were awarded to Kodava students who have studied in Mysuru and passed the respective exams. Children of Samaja members, irrespective of their place of study and Kodava students who have studied in Mysuru, were awarded for their merit.
