Mysuru: Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the City Police, in association with other organisations, took out an anti-drug abuse rally here this morning.
City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar and MMC&RI Psychiatry Department faculty Dr. Malini jointly flagged off the rally in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Palace North Gate.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Malini said, consumption and abuse of drug will only lead to deadly diseases like cancer. Highlighting the hazards of drug abuse, she said that it will adversely affect both the physical and mental health of drug users.
Expressing concern over rising cases of drug abuse amongst college students, which is ruining both their life and careers, she said that everyone should understand that drug use will not only affect the individuals but also their families as well.
Pointing out that drug abuse will also affect society at large, Dr. Malini stressed on the need for carrying out widespread awareness campaign against this societal menace in order to ensure overall health of the society.
City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said that anti-drug abuse campaign is an initiative aimed at preventing and reducing drug use and its harmful effects on individuals and communities.
She called for larger involvement of the public in carrying out awareness programmes and community outreach efforts to discourage drug use and promote healthy lifestyles.
The theme of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking this year (2025) is ‘The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,’ highlighting the need for urgent, evidence-based preventive measures to address the world’s drug abuse problem.
The rally, which commenced from Palace North Gate, passed through K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, D. Banumaiah’s College, CADA Office, Sanskrit Pathashala and Hardinge Circle, before culminating at the starting point.
More than 500 students and staff of MMC&RI Nursing College, Cauvery Nursing School, BGS Nursing School, City Civil and Traffic Police and other organisations took part.
DCPs M. Muthuraju (Law & Order), K.S. Sundar Raj (Crime & Traffic) and Siddanagouda Y. Patil (CAR) and other Police personnel were present.
