Anxious public throng RT-PCR testing sites in city

Mysore/Mysuru: Serpentine queues are witnessed at various RT-PCR testing sites in city in the wake of ever-increasing Corona positive cases and deaths in district.

The panicked public are standing in long queues in front of Town Hall, near Chikka Gadiyara (Dufferin Clock Tower) and Makkala Koota since morning to get themselves tested.

People are coming to these sites as early as 7 am to stand in queue though the testing will start at 10.30 am.

To avoid crowding, token system has been introduced at these three centres. Accordingly, 150 tokens are issued at Town Hall and 200 each in Chikka Gadiyara centre and Makkala Koota. Others were sent back to come next day.

Why rush

Earlier, around 7,000 to 8000 RT-PCR tests were conducted in city daily with people getting tested no matter whether they got symptoms or not. This was delaying issuing test results report to both asymptomatic and symptomatic people.

To avoid this, the District Administration has capped the number of tests to 3,500 per day. With reduction in RT-PCR test by 50 percent, the citizens were now rushing to testing sites for getting themselves tested. This has resulted in crowding of people at these centres.
