Mysore/Mysuru: Following its success in Bengaluru, the ‘Aparichita Odugaru’ (Unknown Readers) campaign has struck a chord with young bibliophiles in Mysuru as well.
A group of students with a shared interest in literature have created a literary community in Mysuru, connecting through social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. This group, composed not only of their peers but also of older individuals, has become a dedicated circle of readers.
The group members gather once a month at Cheluvamba Park, opposite Akashvani in Yadavagiri, to read their favourite books. They also discuss the books, organise quiz competitions on literature and culture, and award books as prizes to the winners. Every Sunday, 40 to 50 book-lovers come together, keeping their passion for literature alive.
Writer Suchitra Hegde, whose latest and popular travelogue ‘Jagava Suttuva Maye’ has received several awards, and young writer Manikanta Trishankar were the guest writers for this month’s book reading. Suchitra, who shared the story behind penning her travelogue, lauded the youths for their creativity and love for reading. She also praised Ananth Kunigal of Avva Pustakalaya, Bengaluru, for launching such an inspiring literary initiative, and Kiran P. Kaushik of Mysuru, along with the literary lovers of Mysuru, known as the Cultural City of the State.
