Apollo BGS Hospitals hosts Walkathon to mark National Cancer Survivor Month

Mysore/Mysuru: The Apollo Walkathon, organised recently by Apollo Cancer Institute and Apollo BGS Hospitals to commemorate National Cancer Survivor Month, attracted over 350 participants.

Under the theme “Celebrating Life,” the event showcased the resilience and strength of cancer survivors, reinforcing the powerful message that life can continue and thrive after cancer. The Walkathon began at 8 am from Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysore, traversing through Kuvempunagar and landmarks like Vijaya Bank Circle and Murugan Medicals Circle.

Eight cancer survivors shared their personal stories, moving the audience with their remarkable journeys. They underscored a message of hope and solidarity in the fight against cancer.

Distinguished guests, including Dr. Ramya Yethadka, Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysore; Dr. Naveen Jayaram Anvekar, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysore and N.G. Bharateesha Reddy, Vice-President and Unit Head of Apollo BGS Hospitals, were present.

Dr. Ramya Yethadka spoke on the critical need for psychological support and encouragement for cancer patients. She called for reducing the stigma surrounding cancer, advocating for a compassionate and supportive environment where patients can share their struggles and triumphs openly.

Dr. Naveen Jayaram Anvekar stressed that a never-give-up attitude is essential to manage and conquer cancer.

Bharateesha Reddy highlighted the life-saving importance of regular health screenings in cancer prevention and early detection. He urged the public to prioritise health check-ups, noting that timely screenings can yield results.

The event also featured an interactive wall made of cardboard, where attendees penned heartfelt messages of support and solidarity for cancer survivors.

The Walkathon served as a platform for survivors to celebrate their milestones, while also raising awareness about the ongoing challenges of battling cancer and allowing them to connect with others who understand their experiences.
