Appeal to MCC Commissioner

Sir,

This is with reference to the property tax drive to ensure Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has enough funds for development works. In this regard, I being a law-abiding citizen, have been paying property taxes up to date.

But this year I am really disappointed the way it’s being managed. I made five visits to the MCC Zonal Office and every visit I was given many reasons such as the officer-in-charge of the Ward is on field work, in a training, in a meeting at the head office, attending colleague’s funeral and finally when I was able to get hold of him, I was told the printers are not working. The pathetic condition of the ill-equipped offices, poorly trained officers add much to the trouble.

In the midst of this pandemic it is really risky to wander out, but I still see senior citizens are willing to take the risk and come out to promptly pay their taxes but the MCC officers and offices are not co-operating. It is a digital world so at least make it easy for citizens by introducing online payment of taxes like BBMP since MCC officers are ‘incapable’ of managing this.

One more thing I noticed was the officers-in-charge arrive in office only after 12 noon and there is no Covid-19 precautions. People without masks are allowed to enter including the staff. I think MCC Commissioner must fix all these drawbacks before committing on a deadline to collect taxes.
